The scooter has at least one of its pedals supported by a vertical shaft(16) which is guided through the frame to move vertically so that the pedal(17) can be selectively moved between an upper neutral position and a lower stop position, and has an elastic return device to the upper position. The scooter has a drive unit to convert a rectilinear alternating movement of this pedal into a rotation of at least one of the driving wheels, and is equipped with a gear change mechanism.
