A window or other panel-opening structure e.g. ventilators comprises an exterior or displaceable or projectable panel supporting generally T section metal, e.g. aluminium frame 12 and a fixed interior metal generally L-section frame 10 , wherein the closure panel, e.g. glazing or other panel 92 shown as a double glazing unit, is thermally insulated from the frame 12 by means of insulating setting blocks 90, thermal insulating pressure adhesive .tape 94, between the marginal portions of the panel 92 and frame 12, and from the interior frame 10 by insulating tubular compressible strips 126 .between the panel and frame 10 in the closed position of the window and the frame 12 being insulated from the frame 10 by hollow compressible, insulating strips 178 between the overlapping marginal portions of both frames, the interior frame 10 being insulatingly mounted and supported in the enclosing wall 174 by an insulating strip 160 of hard plastics material. The strip 160 has dovetail projections (162, 168) for engaging an undercut groove 28 in the interior frame 10 and a depending flange 172 for attachment to the enclosing wall 174. In a single glaze panel the tape 94 and blocks 90 are replaced as in Fig. 2 by channel strips 208 (Fig. 23), or by inverted I-strips 110 (Fig. 13) which may be spaced longitudinally or provided with cut outs to provide air ducts for a circulated stream of air blown over the glass surface. The frame 12 is mounted on the frame 10 for projection therefrom by a linkage mechanism (Fig. 25) operated by a wormwheel of toothed sector mechanism. Grooves (28) enable angled pieces (40, Fig. 10) having notches (.42) at the end portions, to be inserted in the grooves for making a mitre joint, the overlying returns of dovetail (28) being stacked into the notches (42).
