PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device which can improve their manufacturing processes by detecting a process where a white reference plate becomes faulty. SOLUTION: When presence of the white reference data lower than a prescribed signal level is decided, the time when at least the white reference data are stored is stored in a storage area 55 as the history data. Thus, it is possible to store the time when the signal level of the white reference plate lowers as the history data. Thereby a fault of the white reference plate can be momentarily verified and a worker can detect a process where the white reference plate becomes faulty during its manufacturing. As a result, the manufacturing processes can be improved for an image reader and an image forming device.
