The invention relates to a cleaning device for printing-press cylinders. Said device comprises a sustained-action brake (28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38) located on a clean-cloth spindle (4) of a cleaning cloth which can be wound from said spindle onto a soiled-cloth spindle. The sustained-action brake has at least one spring-loaded compression spring (32) located in an axial position in relation to the bearing axis, which is pre-stressed axially between a front face (34) that cannot rotate and a front face of the bearing which, together with the clean-cloth spindle (4), can be rotated in relation to the first front face. The compression spring thus generates rotational braking forces on these front faces (34) and/or on other front faces (28, 30), in order to hold the cleaning cloth taut between the two spindles.
