PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the rapid, persistent and effective inhibition of the production of a sulfide. SOLUTION: This method for inhibiting the production of a sulfide with a sulfate-reducing fungus, comprises the first process for adding an oxidant to a water supply system for producing the sulfide by the action of the sulfate- reducing fungus to give an oxidation-reduction potential of >=-100 mV, and the second process for adding an anthraquinone compound in an amount of >=2 mg/liter.
