The candle holder (2) is provided in a bottom part (1) pivotally secured to a top (cover) part (3) which can be swung between a closed position where it is closed tight against the bottom part and an upright open position where it extends at right angles to the bottom part. A spring urges the top part into the closed position and a catch mechanism (5, 6) with a bimetallic strip (7) fixes the top part in the open position during cold conditions and releases the catch in warm conditions.
