PURPOSE: A measuring device for the oil spreading thickness of a cold rolled steel sheet and a measuring method thereof are provided to enhance measurement reliability by measuring the cold rolled steel sheet in 450 to 650nm of a wavelength range at the same time with one laser illumination, using a spectrograph and an intensified photo diode array. CONSTITUTION: To measure the oil spreading thickness of a cold rolled steel sheet, a system inspects a laser beam and an optical chopper passes the laser beam through a light with a short time interval. Then, an off-axis parabolic mirror collects light signals on the same axis as the laser beam and a diffraction grating collects energy in the different direction of a wavelength by the interference of diffracting rays. A photomultiplier tube emits the laser beam as an electron with a photoelectric cathode and a shielding pipe and a signal processor measures a spectrum and calculates the oil spreading thickness of the coil rolled steel sheet with the multiplied photoelectric signals. Therefore, a measuring device measures the cold rolled steel sheet in 450 to 650nm of a wavelength range at once and continuously measures the entire length of the steel sheet.
