PURPOSE: A failure detecting method for a vehicle speed sensor is provided to improve the efficiency of failure detecting and to remove uneasiness from a driver by detecting an accurate factor of failure. CONSTITUTION: A failure detecting method of a vehicle speed sensor comprises the steps of: calculating the number of vehicle sensor rotational pulses after reading signals of an ignition switch, a vehicle speed, an engine rpm, a shift lever neutral and a clutch pedal switch; detecting a high frequency error by the vehicle speed rotational pulses; detecting the malfunction of a vehicle speed sensor during a travel; detecting instantaneous acceleration and deceleration errors of the vehicle speed sensor; and indicating failure and outputting a fuel injection control signal. Therefore, the performance of failure detecting is improved and uneasiness is removed from a driver.
