PURPOSE: A recording and playing device is provided to perform non-contact communication with a memory inside a cassette with recorded information on recording contents. CONSTITUTION: A recording and playing device is provided for a tape cassette having a memory keeping a magnetic tape(30) in a cassette shell, and an antenna connected with the memory. The recording and playing device consists of a recording and playing mechanism(140) for recording/playing back a tape cassette, a cassette-holding member(150) moving between a recording/playing position of the tape cassette and a cassette-passing position, a cassette-passing member moving in a crossing direction with a moving track of the cassette-holding member between a holding position and an ejecting position, and an antenna(190) for communication with the memory in the cassette.
