PURPOSE: An RIU(Radio Interface Unit) of a WLL(Wireless Local Loop) system having a video telephone function is provided to enable data to be transmitted at high speed, by making a video telephone set connectable to a common telephone set and another video telephone set. CONSTITUTION: A CCD camera(18) takes a picture of a transmitter user. A video capture part(17) converts a video signal of the picture thereof, taken by the CCD camera(18), to a digital signal. A video CODEC part(16) compresses video data of the digital signal from the video capture part(17), and recovers compressed video data of the opposite part. A Vocoder(4) transmits the compressed video data and voice data of the transmitter user compressed by a voice CODEC part(5) to a time switch(3). The Vocoder(4) separates the compressed voice and video data of the opposite part from each other, and then outputs them to the voice CODEC part(5) and the video CODEC part(16). An LCD driving part(8-2) in a control part(8) overlays the video data, recovered by the video CODEC part(16), on a menu screen, and thereby displays the video data on an LCD display device(15).
