Arrangement in which a vehicle onboard receiver (12) receives a control signal from a transmitter (16) that is then used by a controller (14) to automatically limit the vehicle speed to a set value. The speed limit is set by an operating person and is dependent on vehicle location. i.e. in built up areas near schools or children's play areas the speed limit is set to a safe low level. The transmitters can be positioned in street lighting, signs, etc.
