PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal compressor directly driven by a high speed motor in which reduction of a cost and high performance are compatible. SOLUTION: In this centrifugal compressor in which an impeller is attached to at least one end part of a rotary shaft so as to form a compressor stage and the impeller is driven at a high speed directly by an electric motor part formed in the intermediate part of the rotary shaft, for supporting the rotary shaft, a gas bearing is used as a radial bearing, and an active magnetic bearing is used as a thrust bearing.
