PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an acid hair dye composition readily applicable to the hair, extremely excellent in hair dyeing power and fastness to shampoos and excellent in removability of skin dyeing. SOLUTION: This acid hair dye composition is characterized as comprising (A) an acid dye, (B) one or more kinds of organic solvents selected from aromatic alcohols, N-alkylpyrrolidones, lower alkylene carbonates, glyerol carbonates and derivatives thereof, (C) an organic acid and (D) polyethylene glycol at pH 2.5-4.5.
