PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tracking device which reduces the movement of a camera as much as possible, to automatically track a subject with an image which is easy to see by setting the range of a dead zone in the photographing screen of the camera and fixing the photographing direction of the camera, when the centroid coordinate indicating the position of the subject to be tracked is within the range of the dead zone and changing the photographing direction of the camera, to perform automatic tracking operation, when the centroid coordinate gets out of the range of the dead zone. SOLUTION: An image processing processor 52 extracts a moving subject from an image photographed by a camera 40 and obtains the centroid coordinate indicating the position of the subject. A CPU 54 discriminates whether the centroid coordinate lies within the range of the dead zone set in the center part of the screen, and the camera 40 is neither panned nor tilted, if it lies within the range of the dead zone. |
