The circuit has a characterizing magnetic component with a primary winding (3) and one or more secondary isolating windings (4,5) controlled by a semiconducting switch (7) and a modulator (13) in one or more phases at the primary winding and at one of the other secondary windings by a digital modulator (9). When using a modulated supply on the primary winding, the voltage and its modulation are transferred to the other windings with the semiconducting switch closed. If the switch is open, the modulation passes to the other windings by controlling a digital modulator set to one of the secondary windings.
