PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of producing a colloid crystal having a substantially three-dimensional order. SOLUTION: In the process of this invention, an improved template is used based on the knowledge that a conventional template for the formation of a colloid crystal can not give the expected three-dimensional periodical property. Therefore, a colloid crystal having extremely high quality can be formed. Particularly, the colloid template of this invention is designed, different from a conventional template, in such a manner that colloid particles are introduced to be arranged in desired positions and therefore, the particles are orderly arranged.
