[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] The jaws 3, Fig. 1, of a grab are connected to a ring 7 by resilient struts 25 so that when the ring is rotated by a ram 8 the jaws are pivoted to their open positions shown in Fig. 2. When the jaws are closed the struts 25 are compressed as they go over-centre. This ensures that failure of the ram 8 does not allow the jaws to open. Similar mechanism may be used to operate members 59, Fig. 6, which clamp the lid 52 of a container 51 in the closed position.</p> |
