PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a micropattern polarizing device which does not require extremely high positioning accuracy such as lamination and which shows excellent partial alignment of a dichroic dye compound, and to establish a method of producing that device. SOLUTION: The polarizing device is produced by arranging dichroic molecules in a micropattern in a thin film layer of a liquid crystal polymer having optical active groups irradiated with linearly polarized light. The liquid crystal polymer compound having optical active groups causes changes in the alignment of the molecular axes of the optical active groups by irradiation with linearly polarized light. The aforementioned changes in the alignment of the molecular axes mean such a phenomenon that after the molecules absorb the energy of the linearly polarized light, the direction of the molecular axis changes into a specified direction according to the linearly polarized light. |
