PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device which report alarm information of an ATM to an IEEE 1394 network in a connection between different kinds of networks of IEEE 1394 and ATM. SOLUTION: An ATM/IEEE 1394 protocol conversion device includes an OAM detection part, which detects an OAM cell including alarm information from an ATM network in the preceding stage, and an IEEE 1394 packet assembling part which assembles a corresponding IEEE packet from detected alarm information, and the IEEE 1394 packet assembling part is comprised of an alarm data generation part which generated alarm information corresponding to the reception OAM cell, an IEEE 1394 packet control part which writes this alarm in the IEEE 1394 packet, and an IEEE 1394 packet generation part which converts a reception ATM cell and alarm information of the OAM to generate an IEEE 1394 packet.
