PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal recording and reproducing device, which can prevent the occurrence of such inconvenience as to eliminate important video recorded images, in the case of adopting a configuration in which reproduction is performed, while a video signal is subjected to video recording in an endless form. SOLUTION: This device acquires a video recorded image that that just been subjected to video recording, a video recorded image that has just been erased or a video recorded image to be erased from now and a video recorded image pointed by a video recording position designated by a user, generates their reduced images and displays them on a display screen on which a reproduced image is displayed. The device also acquires video recorded images for each fixed time interval, generates their reduced images and arranges and displays them on the display screen, on which the reproduced image is displayed in order of video recording time. According to this configuration, the user can know the contents of video recorded images concretely, so that occurrence of such inconvenience as to eliminate the important video recorded images can be prevented.
