PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display the image with aspect ratio of 4 to 3 on the entire wide screen of an aspect ratio of 16 to 9 and also to display an image that is easy to look at, by eliminating extreme magnification at a peripheral part with respect to a horizontal direction. SOLUTION: The image display device for displaying the image of aspect ratio of 4 to 3 on the display screen of the aspect ratio of 16 to 9, has a video signal inputting part 11 inputting image information, a liquid crystal display 17 displaying an image corresponding to the image information, and image converting parts 13 to 15 which convert the image of the aspect ratio of 4 to 3 inputted from the part 11 into the image of the aspect ratio of 16 to 9 that can be displayed on the display 17, and the image-converting parts which causes linear change of horizontal magnification with respect to the image information from the center to the peripheral part.
