PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder comprising a full-line type recording head having a nozzle array corresponding to the width of a recording medium in which high speed recording is realized by eliminating ejection control of nozzles not for use. SOLUTION: Recording elements are divided into a plurality of blocks of specified number of elements, a recording element is designated by generating a signal for designating one of the plurality of blocks and a signal for designating one element in each block and then each recording element is driven by a counter 122 determining the drive timing of each recording element sequentially. Blocks to be driven actually are then designated among the plurality of blocks by means of a start block designating register 120 and an end block designating register 121. Each recording element is driven by designating a recording element and operating the counter 122 only for a designated block.
