PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure safe starting of an automobile. SOLUTION: A system 10 is for data exchange between a data carrier 12 and a device 14 mounted on an automobile whose antitheft function is in total or in part fulfilled by data processing. The unit 14 is installed for a manual insertion of the data carrier 12 into a housing 16 where it takes a working position. The unit 14 carries a support 18 mounted for articulated motion relative to the main body of the unit 14. The support 18 has an upper end so opened as to allow the data carrier 12 to be inserted into and taken out from the housing 16. The articulated support 18 is pivotable between an open position and a closed position wherein the data carrier 12 is held in the unit 14.
