PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for automatically switching a VCR of a TV are provided to switch to a channel which is set in a VCR or an external input mode automatically by a user in a VCR power on state. CONSTITUTION: An antenna(10) receives a broadcasting signal. A VCR(20) receives the broadcasting signal and outputs the signal or reproduces a video tape. A TV(30) receives the output of the VCR(20) and displays the corresponding broadcasting signal or the contents of the VCR tape. An A/V line(50) transmits a video signal and an audio signal output from the VCR(20) to the TV(30). A communication line(60) performs a data communication between the VCR(20) and the TV(30). The VCR(20) comprises an input terminal(21) receiving an RF signal being received from the antenna(10), an output terminal(22) outputting the RF signal, an A/V terminal(23) outputting a video signal and an audio signal, and the first link(24) connecting to one end of the communication line(60). The TV(30) comprises an RF input terminal(31) receiving the RF signal, an external input terminal(32) receiving an output of the A/V terminal(23), and the second link(33) connecting to the other end of the communication line(60).
