GLMU POLYPEPTIDE AND DNA ENCODING FOR THE POLYPEPTIDE

A polypeptide having an N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (hereinafter abbreviated as GlmU) activity; a DNA encoding this polypeptide; a recombinant DNA containing this DNA; a transformant carrying this recombinan t DNA; a process for producing the GlmU polypeptide by using this transformant ; and a process for producing uridine 5'-diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine by using this transformant. Thus, the GlmU polypeptide originating in a microorganism belonging to Corynebacterium glutamicum can be produced on a mass scale by gene recombination techniques. By using this enzyme, moreover, uridine 5'-diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine can be efficiently produced.
