PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of the changed parts of a spark ignition type gas lighter which ignites a fuel gas blown out by the pressing-down operation of a pressing-down means and secures the easiness, in assembling of the lighter while the operability of a lock mechanism which disables the pressing down operation of the pressing-down means and the operation stability and ignitability of the lighter are secured. SOLUTION: A spark ignition type gas lighter is provided with an actuating lever 4 which actuates the opening and closing operations of a valve mechanism 32, an igniting means 5, and a pressing-down means 6 which operates the lever 4 and, at the same time, makes igniting operations when the means 6 is pressed down. The means 6 is composed of an operational cap 7, a stopper member 8 which can move between a locked position and an unlocked position, and an urging members 9 which urges the stopper member 8 toward the locked position. The sliding sections 81 of the stopper member 8 extended in the forward-backward direction on both sides of the member 8 are assembled with the operational cap 7 in a state where the members 81 are slidably supported by the cap 7, and the elastic pieces 91 of the urging member 9 are engaged with the sliding sections 81 of the stopper member 8 on both sides and urge the sliding sections 81 in the locking direction for moving the stopper member 8 to the unlocked position by operating the stopper member 8 in the direction in which the member 8 is pressed against the cap 7.
