Pretreatment of cutting blades for tungsten carbide cutting tools to be diamond coated by chemical vapour deposition (CVD)

Pretreatment comprises laser beam or electronic bombardment machining microcavities on the cutting (2) and the relief (1) faces or on one of the two faces (1 or 2) of the tools over a width of between 0.2-0.5 mm over the whole length. The microcavities are filled during the coating phase and augment the hooking force for the diamond coating. After diamond CVD coating, the cutting blades are chamfered to improve the cutting sharpness. An Independent claim is also included for a cutting tool treated by this process
