PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the diameter of a glow plug for diesel engine. SOLUTION: The internal axial hole 4 of the cylindrical housing 2 of a glow plug for diesel engine is composed of an intermediate-diameter section 4a into and in which a metallic outer tube 8 joined with a ceramic heating element 6 is inserted and fixed, a large-diameter section 4c which is provided on the other end side and into and in which an insulating bush 12 integrated with an outside connecting terminal 10 is inserted and fixed, and a small-diameter section 4b provided between the sections 4a and 4c. The connecting terminal 10 has an axial through hole 10a. The metallic outer tube 8 to which the heating element 6 is fixed is inserted into and fixed in the intermediate-diameter section 4a. An insulating bush 12 integrated with the terminal 10 is inserted into the large-diameter section 4c and fixed by caulking the end section 2a of the housing 2. The electrode leading-out fitting 14 of the heating element 6 is passed through the axial hole 10a of the terminal 10 and fixed to the external end of the terminal 10. Since only the electrode leading-out fitting 14 of the heating element 6 is passed through the small-diameter section 4b, the diameter of the section 4b and, accordingly, that of the glow plug can be reduced.
