The invention relates to a tubular reactor (10) for treating reaction material that is supplied in batch quantities. The inventive reactor is provided with at least two successive sections of the inner chamber (30, 32) and an inlet (40) for the reaction material. The first section is defined by a helix (20) which comprises a lead angle. The lead is chosen in such a way that an amount of reaction material enters the section (32) per unit of time, whereby said amount is defined for the reaction.
