PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active high temperature furnace wall having high heat insulation effect in which damage of a heat insulating material is reduced and heat insulation performance can be controlled depending on the variation of conditions in a furnace. SOLUTION: The high temperature furnace comprises a refractory heat insulation layer 10 composed of a porous body for partitioning the back face side thereof from the high temperature side in the furnace, and means for feeding low temperature working fluid from the back face 14 side of the refractory heat insulation layer 10 toward the front face 12 on the high temperature side provided in the refractory heat insulation layer 10 wherein heat conducted from the front face 12 on the high temperature side to the refractory heat insulation layer 10 is cooled by the working fluid and the working fluid is discharged to the outside of the refractory heat insulation layer 10.
