PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material of a negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has superior charging/discharging characteristics than conventional materials for the negative electrode. SOLUTION: A negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is made of a material that is formed of silicon compound containing at least silicon and nickel, where the silicon compound shows seven peaks in an X-ray diffraction measurement, where seven peaks correspond to 0.402±0.05 nm, 0.352±0.05 nm, 0.274±0.04 nm, 0.201±0.03 nm, 0.200±0.03 nm, 0.189±0.02 nm, 0.186±0.02 nm in d-value. |
