PURPOSE:To obtain a seal capable of sealing a bearing box against dust effectively in a contactless manner, by forming a plurality of fins around the outer circumference of a rotatable labyrinth element, and locating an inlet to a gap of the labyrinth seal near the region where the fins are turned. CONSTITUTION:A hollow space consisting of pocket (b) is formed between a bearing box 4 and a rotatable labyrinth element 5 inside an outer end cover 7, and fins 8 are formed radially around the outer circumference of the labyrinth element 5. Resultantly, when the fins 8 of the labyrinth element 5 are turned with rotation of the element 5, a large centrifugal force is produced in the pocket (b) and a gap (a), so that foreign matter introduced into the bearing box from the clearance at the top of the outer end cover 7 is repelled to the outside by the fins 8 and foreign matter intruding into a passage (c) is also repelled to the outside in the same way by the fins 8. |
