Dispensers for a solid or soft solid mass comprise a barrel (1), a piston (1 2) within the barrel (1), and a mechanism for advancing the piston axially with in the barrel including a rotor wheel (6). The invention provides a seating mea ns for the rotor wheel (6) at a predetermined angular position relative to the barrel (1) comprising a boss (9a, 9b) having an inwardly tapered profile (te ar drop) and a sump (3a, 3b) dimensioned to receive the boss. The boss is preferably formed on the rotor wheel (6) and the sump in the base (2) of the barrel (1). Especially desirably, the dispenser is provided with a pair of bosses and sumps, symmetrically arranged around the rotor wheel and barrel base.
