PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for fixing and a method for replacing a head- supporting unit whereby the head-supporting unit can be separated singly from a carriage while a position accuracy of a recording head is ensured by a direct bonding method, and only a defective head can be replaced even when the head is confirmed to be defective after loaded to the carriage, thereby enabling effective utilization of the other good heads without discarding the heads. SOLUTION: A carriage to which a plurality of head-supporting units supporting recording heads of each color is loaded is reciprocated on a printing paper, thereby executing printing in a serial printer. In this case, the head- supporting unit is spatially bonded to a region over the carriage outside a region where a replacement allowance is provided for the head-supporting unit to be replaced.
