PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discriminate whether an optical disk is a disk whose recording capacity is made to be large or not. SOLUTION: At the time of recording a signal of a compact disk system on the optical disk, when the recording density of the optical disk is made to be high, a synchronous pattern in which two '11T' (T is the minimum channel bit interval) patterns of the case of a disk whose recording density is not made to be high are used is made to be a pattern in which a pattern different from the '11T' pattern and one '11T' pattern are used. Since the optical disk is made able to be is synchronization with the '11T' pattern and also another pattern is made to a pattern different from the '11T' pattern, this optical disk reproducing device can discriminate the optical disk whose recording density is made to be high.
