PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image pickup optical system whose eccentric aberration and chromatic aberration are compensated and which gives a clear image with little distortion even at a wide viewing angle. SOLUTION: This image pickup optical system is composed of an image pickup optical device 10 and a diffraction optical device 20 which are arranged eccentrically each other. The device 10 is composed of at least, three optical surfaces 11 to 13 arranged adjacently, and at least, one of three optical surfaces is composed of a curved surface, then reflection is performed at least, twice or more times between the optical surfaces.
