Internal combustion engine of a vehicle (A) has an adsorption unit (1) arranged in the engine and formed in such a way that only one part of the combustion air introduced for combustion is enriched with oxygen. Non oxygen-enriched combustion air is introduced on one side to the combustion chamber (2) via a line independent of the adsorption unit and oxygen-enriched combustion air is enriched on the other side via a feed separate from the line. Preferred Features: The adsorption unit is connected to a compressor which in turn is connected to a drive. A drying agent is provided in the adsorber (3, 4) of the adsorption unit. A heater is provided for the drying agent and the adsorber. A nitrogen run-off line (18) is connected to the adsorber.
