PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for managing data by which such a problem that the meaning information, etc., of a tag which is distributed and opened by a specific creater must be used by putting trust in the creater while it becomes common to improve the usability of data by adding tags to various kinds of data by using a markup language, such as the XML, etc. SOLUTION: A data management device is composed of a registered meta- data accepting means which accepts the registration of data from a meta-data developer, a meta-data examining means which examines the form of the accepted meta-data, a registered meta-data discriminating means which loads given data onto the accepted meta-data. The device is also composed of a means which adds the discriminated results of the discriminating means to the meta-data and stores the data in a data base or allots the data, a registered data opening means which allots the requested meta-data to a user in response to the request from the user, and a registered meta-data feeding-back means which accepts feedback information regarding the meta-data.
