PURPOSE: A method and a device for a voice message service in a mobile communication system, are provided to convert a predetermined length of character message and an e-mail character message received from a wired network in the mobile communication system into a voice message, and to transmit the converted voice message to an incoming mobile station. CONSTITUTION: If a predetermined length of character message is received, an MSC(Mobile Switching Center)(310) checks whether a corresponding incoming mobile station(380) is capable of receiving the character message. If so, the MSC(310) checks whether the incoming mobile station(380) is not registered in a character/voice message conversion service. If the incoming mobile station(380) is not registered, the MSC(310) transmits the received character message to a character message management center(330) for managing. The MSC(310) transmits the character message to a corresponding n-th base station(344). If the incoming mobile station(380) is incapable of receiving the character message and the incoming mobile station(380) is registered in the character/voice message conversion service, a character/voice conversion station(350) inputs the character message received from the MSC(310) and converts the character message into voice data, then converts the voice data into audible voice signals. A voice mail system(360) receives and manages the audible voice signals. The MSC(310) transmits voice messages to the n-th base station(344).
