PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording/reproducing method and device capable of surely reproducing the information by preventing the generation of residual magnetic field due to the hysteresis of a magnetic core of a magnetic coil. SOLUTION: After the recording operation or erase operation is finished, the magnetic core of the magnetic coil 29 is degaussed in such a manner that the magnetic field generated from the magnetic coil 29 is alternated and attenuated by supplying the AC current to the magnetic coil 29 of the magneto-optical recording/reproducing device 100 while gradually attenuating it. By this procedure, the generation of the residual magnetic field due to the hysteresis of the magnetic core is prevented, and the residual magnetic field does not be impressed on a medium 10 at the time of information reproduction. Therefore, this device is extremely suitable for the device to record/reproduce the medium reproducing the information without impressing the reproducing magnetic field at the time of information reproduction like the CAD type magneto-optical recording medium.
