PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording paper carrying device eliminating the need of a complicated system and easily reducing the size thereof, at a low cost. SOLUTION: This recording paper carrying device is provided with a press- contacting system having a supporting member 408 rotatably supporting a follower roller 407 and rotatably provided, and an elastic body 410 adding elastic force so as to press-contact the follower roller 407 toward a carrying roller 406. The recording paper carrying device is also provided with a releasing system wherein a chucking system partially abuts on the supporting member 408 side to release the press-contacting action of the follower roller 407 while displacing the follower roller 407 when the chucking system leads a recording paper batch to a nip portion. After the tip end portion of the recording paper batch enters the nipαportion, releasing action owing to the releasing is stopped, and then the follower roller 407 is return to the press-contacting state.
