PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a process for producing a glass substrate for information recording medium which is capable of suppressing the adhesion and readhesion of deposits on the glass substrate surface and improving the cleanness of the glass substrate surface after the washing. SOLUTION: The glass substrate for the information recording medium is formed by polishing the main surface of a glass substrate material, then washing the surface. The washing is executed by using a pad and scrubbing this pad under pressurization to the main surface of the glass substrate material with an aqueous solvent. At this time, the washing is preferably executed under such conditions under which p×t attains a range of 2,000 to 15,000 when the pressure of the pad is defined as p (g/cm2) and the washing time as t (sec). Also, the aqueous solvent having a pH ranging from 8 to 12 is more preferable. Further, the aqueous solvent having specific resistance of >=4 MQ.m is more preferable. In addition, the aqueous solvent, of which the particles of the diameter of >=0.5μm existing in 1 ml are below 100 pieces is more preferable.
