A vaccine composition comprising an influenza virus antigen and chitosan as adjuvant, useful for producing a protective IgA mucosal immune response

A vaccine composition adapted for mucosal administration comprises an influenza virus antigen and an effective adjuvant amount of chitosan. The chitosan is a deacetylated chitin which is at least 80 % deacetylated. A pharmaceutical product comprises a dispensing device adapted to deliver a composition intranasally, in combination with the vaccine composition. An influenza virus antigen together with a chitosan is used in the preparation of a medicament for immunising a host against infection with influenza, wherein the medicament is formulated for mucosal surface administration.
