PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a system and method for water examination by which a hazardous material can be detected appropriately in real time. SOLUTION: A water examination system which examines water to be examined is provided with reagent tanks 220-228 for selectively adding a plurality of kinds of reagents for inspection to the water to be inspected, a static mixer 270 which uniformly scatters the reagents in the water, and a spectrophotometer 280 which measures the spectral absorption intensity of the water containing the scattered reagents. The system is also provided with a discriminating device 288 which discriminates whether or not a hazardous material is contained in the water.
