PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide large radiation intensity in a far ultraviolet range and a near ultraviolet range of a discharge lamp by specifying the quantity of mercury enclosed in a discharge container together with a rare gas. SOLUTION: The enclosed quantity of mercury is 0.01-4 mg/cc. One or more kinds of rare gases, such as xenon, krypton and argon are enclosed inside a discharge vessel. For instance, quartz glass or the like is used for a material constituting the discharge vessel. Since the mercury is present in the form of vapor during lighting, a radiant spectrum by the mercury affects a radiant spectrum by the rare gas(es), so that the distribution of light in a far ultraviolet range of a wavelength of 300 nm or less is changed greatly, and as result, light in a targeted wavelength range is radiated with large intensity by small current density, and light of large radiation intensity can be obtained in a far ultraviolet range and a near ultraviolet range, and accordingly, since this discharge lamp can be used suitably for sterilization processing, a setting process of an ultraviolet-ray setting resin and the like. Its rapture life due to the deterioration of the discharge vessel is extended significantly by enclosing the mercury.
