When the airbag (3) is unfolded, the lateral section (5) is arranged adjacent to the section (4) in such a way that the lateral section (5) can carry out a folding movement around a folding axis and away from the section (4) during inflation of the airbag (3) by means of the gas and in such a way that the airbag (3) is at least partially unfolded, whereby said gas is produced by the gas generator (2).
