Mouthpiece (1), and speaker assemblies (8) for underwater speech using SCUBA and snorkel equipment. Mouthpiece (1) is characterized by a molded rubber or plastic mouthpiece having a connector (5) for use with a regulator (12) or a snorkel (30), a lip cup (3), a pair of elongated, serpentine or curved teeth grips or bites (4) extending from the lip cup (3) for gripping by the jaw teeth of a SCUBA diver or snorkeler and facilitating movement of the lips to enable underwater speech. The mouthpiece (1) is designed for attachment directly to an underwater speaker (16), a snorkel (30), a snorkel and speaker combination (10), or to the mouthpiece of a conventional second stage regulator (12), and speaker combination. The underwater speaker (16) includes a pair of flexible membranes (22) connected at a common perimeter (23) designed to pulse, to flex responsive to the pressure pulses of a diver or snorkeler's breath, and voice.
