PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a longitudinal thermal head, capable of preventing generation of white stripes in a printed matter corresponding to a 'joint' of adjacent head substrates in a simple configuration. SOLUTION: This thermal head comprises a plurality of head substrates 1a, 1b, or the like, having heat generating element rows on the upper surface arranged in a main scanning direction, with the head substrates 1a, 1b, or the like, supported on a single supporting plate 4. Spacers 5a, 5b, or the like, narrower than the head substrates 1a, 1b, or the like, are provided between the supporting plate 4 and each head substrate 1a, 1b, or the like, with the end part thereof disposed inward with respect to the main scanning direction end part of the head substrates 1a, 1b, or the like. Moreover, a gap is provided between the main scanning direction end parts of the supporting plate 4 and each head substrate 1a, 1b, or the like so that the gap is filled with an elastic adhesive.
