PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically remove foreign substances such paper slag, coating scum clogging a gap between the edge of a doctor blade and the outer circumferential face of a roll. SOLUTION: This doctor apparatus 1 comprises a doctor blade 2 and a blade holding mechanism 3 and the doctor blade 2 is composed of a plurality of doctor blade pieces 21-26. Each of the doctor blades 21-26 is supported in a manner that it is independently movable in the longitudinal direction of the blade piece to be brought into contact with and parted from the roll outer circumferential face 11 and at the same time each blade is pushed against the roll outer circumferential face 11 by the elastic force by an air tube 71. If foreign substances clog a gap between the doctor blade pieces and the roll outer circumferential face 11, the spring up movement of the doctor blade pieces is automatically induced and owing to the spring up movement, the clogging foreign substances are automatically removed.
