In the chain guide of a continuous casting machine, in partic. for a twin chain introduced into the mould from top, the driven guide rolls (1) and/or individual chain guide segments on one hand and the chains (3) on the other hand are provided with mating guide elements (4, 6), The driven top guide rolls (1) are provided on their circumference with a track holding profile in the form of a groove (4), while each chain (3) is provided on its links (5) with repetitive counter profiles (6) which mate with the groove (4) and maintain the chain on its track (x-x). The groove (4) has inclined flanks (7) at an angle between 30 and 60 degrees and pref. 45 degrees to the roll axis (y-y). The counter profiles (6) in side view have the form of a truncated pyramid, while in plan view they have the form of a rhomboid. Such profiles are mounted on each alternate chain link. The guide segments are provided with side guides for one or more chains (3). Such side guides are controlled by a sequential chain track control system. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used with continuous high-productivity casting machines, where use of chains between two casting operations reduces the prepn. time. It solves (for the first time) the problem of keeping top-loaded chains on their correct tracks. |
